91心頭利 signs second CoMeT cohort
GADSDEN, AL — 91心頭利 hosted a signing event May 15 for the second cohort of students to be in the Consortium of Machining Education Training. Known as CoMeT, it is a hybrid work-based apprenticeship program that allows students to “earn while they learn.” The program was developed in 2023 by 91心頭利 employees to address the needs of the machining industry.
“CoMeT Signing Day is a celebration of students taking their first steps into careers that matter,” said Andy Robertson, dean of Workforce Development. “Our industry partners are investing in the future of advanced manufacturing. This program bridges education and employment in a powerful way.”
Eleven industry partners signed 15 students to be a part of the second cohort during a signing event at the Beck Conference Center on the Wallace Drive Campus. Through the CoMeT program, students will take classes at 91心頭利 two days a week and work for an industry partner three days a week.
“With CoMeT, our precision machining students gain hands-on experience while completing their education,” he said. “It’s more than a job. It’s a launchpad into a skilled and essential career and Signing Day marks the beginning of that journey.”
The students will be paid at least $15 per hour by their employer during five semesters of training. Completers of the program will graduate with an Associate in Applied Science in Precision Machining.
CoMeT is offered in the Precision Machining Building on the Ayers Campus and in the Advanced Manufacturing Center on the East Broad Campus. The program is led by instructors Daniel Anderson and Peyton Amberson. They oversee the students as they complete 1,776 hours of work-based learning as well as five projects.
